Whitecroft Lighting was appointed the main lighting manufacturer by M&E contractor NG Bailey on this vast and complex project.

Covering 80,000 square meters over four buildings, with a soaring four story atrium and detailed specification, MECD presented an opportunity for Whitecroft to deliver high-design bespoke lighting – either custom designed or sourced from its specialist education inventory.

With no traditional false ceilings, all the M&E engineering throughout the building is purposefully on show. This required precision engineering, with all cabling and trunking symmetrical, and colour coordinated.

This included high level MEB containment services, the pipework, and the conduits tray, with the lighting on lower levels perfectly symmetrical to those above.

MECD space also offers the University flexibility, with the space designed like a series of Jenga blocks that can be moved or repurposed as needed and demanding that the lighting be adjusted to suit changing need.
