Providing adaptable and robust lighting

Sport and exercise play a major part in children’s development, and sporting success instils pride in both students and the school. It is also one of the prime ways a school interacts with the wider community. These multi-functional spaces need to be flexible enough to cope with a wide variety of sporting uses and lighting must be adaptable, consistent and robust.

The avoidance of visual distraction is important in any sporting activity, and especially so in activities such as badminton, where competitors have to pick out a fast moving object overhead. Disability glare must be avoided and luminaires with lower surface brightness should be sought wherever possible.
