In today’s manufacturing environment – safety goes beyond a compliance metric; it’s an indication of operational excellence and creating an environment for our team – one that reinforces their well-being.
The result - a record-breaking milestone for Whitecroft, 413 days cleared since our last lost time accident, driven by a strategy enforced by our Health and Safety Department.
The adoption of this into the business is testament to the attitudes of our team, embedding our core values into the principles of what they do:
Curious Creators – By using real-time data to make informed decisions about safety implications daily, we reinforce our working practices and encourage discussion and collaboration across teams to identify areas of risk that require management. Additional training is provided to refresh the team’s hazard perception skills, enabling them to quickly identify potential risks and understand the control measures in place to prevent these from escalating into more serious threats to themselves or others.
Committed Together – We conduct an annual, business-wide safety climate survey to gather direct feedback from our team, helping us identify areas of weakness and integrate them into our strategy. This enables us to plan effectively for resolution while reducing the likelihood of recurrence. While this approach is valuable for capturing broad, holistic feedback, we have also seen increased engagement with our near miss reporting system, a 50% increase in quality near miss reports in 4 years. We support this by raising visibility of key areas across the business through targeted marketing materials, enabling the team to report issues quickly and facilitate prompt resolution.
Aim Higher – Over 60 members of Whitecroft have successfully completed and are qualified in IOSH health and safety training, advocating for workplace health and safety through an internationally recognised qualification.
From shop floor operators to senior leaders, every team member plays a role.
By empowering employees through targeted training, accessible reporting systems, and visible leadership, we’ve cultivated a mindset where safety is everyone’s responsibility.
At Whitecroft, safety isn’t just a metric — it’s a mindset that reflects who we are. This achievement speaks to our belief that creating a safer workplace drives innovation, trust, and long-term sustainability — for our people and our partners.
