About Donate-A-Light

Donate-A-Light began with a single project at Bury Hospice and has since grown into a vital initiative supporting care homes, hospices, charities, and non-profit community projects across the UK.

By repurposing surplus LED lighting from manufacturers, we provide sustainable, energy-efficient solutions to organisations that often cannot afford to upgrade their outdated lighting systems. This not only significantly reduces their high energy costs and maintenance inefficiencies but also brings much-needed light to vital community spaces.

A partnership built on impact

Whitecroft Lighting has played a huge part in making this mission possible. Their generosity and hands-on involvement have gone far beyond simple donations, providing a dedicated warehouse unit for storage, offering crucial logistical support, and personally delivering lighting to care homes and hospices across the UK. Securing our biggest contribution to date best demonstrated their commitment: a £40,000 donation of downlights from lighting design practice 18 Degrees. The safe transport of all 4,000 downlights to our Manchester facility was then handled by Whitecroft, who employed their innovative reusable Geopak™ packaging system for collection.

Whitecroft have helped us repurpose surplus luminaires and demonstrated a deep commitment to sustainability and community care.

This exceptional spirit of collaboration and generosity earned Whitecroft the first-ever Platinum Award, the highest recognition we’ve given to date. It is a well-deserved acknowledgement of their commitment to brightening communities.

Next steps

Looking ahead, we plan to expand Donate-A-Light across the UK, into Scotland and Wales, and eventually into Europe. With continued support from dedicated partners like Whitecroft and through new funding and sponsorship, we aim to grow our operations and continue to help growing community organisations."
